Built to Matter

Bough Built is a Sure Service Co brand — handmade with American hardwood and old-school joinery. Every piece is designed to last generations, not seasons. From our workshop in Culpeper, VA, we craft furniture and home goods that blend function with heirloom quality.

Our Story

Bough Built started the same way most good things do — with a problem and a workbench. What began as a weekend project building a planter box for a back porch turned into a calling. One neighbor asked for one, then another. Pretty soon the workshop was running most nights and every Saturday.

Every piece we make is cut, joined, and finished by hand in our Culpeper workshop. We don't use CNC routers or assembly lines. We use chisels, planes, clamps, and the kind of joinery that held furniture together for centuries before anyone invented particle board.

We serve the Culpeper and greater DC area — delivering everything from small batch serving boards to custom dining tables. Whether it's a heritage planter for a front stoop in Old Town or a live-edge desk for a home office in Arlington, every build gets the same attention to detail.

"We believe in building things that matter. In a world of disposable goods, we choose hardwood, hand tools, and patience. Every knot, grain, and joint tells a story — one we're proud to pass on."

— Bough Built

Our Materials

We source sustainably and choose wood that earns its place in your home.

American Black Walnut

Rich chocolate hues with striking grain patterns. Our most requested wood for heirloom furniture. Naturally durable and ages beautifully.

White Oak

Classic American hardwood with prominent grain and exceptional strength. Ideal for tables, desks, and pieces that see daily use for decades.

Cherry

Warm reddish tones that deepen and darken over time. A joy to work with hand tools and a favorite for heirloom-quality case goods.

Hard Maple

Clean, light, and incredibly dense. Perfect for kitchen wares, cutting boards, and pieces that need a refined, contemporary look.

From the Workshop

I've been making things with my hands as long as I can remember — taking things apart, figuring out how they work, and building something better. Woodworking started as a hobby and slowly took over the garage, then the basement, and eventually became a full-time craft.

I work out of a small shop in Culpeper, VA, surrounded by the Blue Ridge foothills. The pace is deliberate — measure twice, cut once, sand one more pass than you think you need. Every board is selected for its grain, every joint fitted by hand, and every finish chosen for how it'll look ten years from now, not just today.

Whether you're ordering a kit to build yourself or commissioning a custom dining table, I treat every piece like it's going in my own home — because it probably would if I had room for it.
