Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about ordering, building, and caring for your Bough Built pieces.
Shipping & Delivery
Do you offer local pickup?
Yes! Local pickup is available in Culpeper, VA. We'll coordinate a time once your order is ready — typically within 5–10 business days depending on the piece.
Do you deliver?
We offer delivery within 50 miles of Culpeper. This includes the greater DC area, Fredericksburg, Charlottesville, and most of Northern Virginia. We'll reach out after you place your order to schedule a drop-off window.
How much does shipping cost?
Flat rate $15 for delivery within our 50-mile coverage area. Local pickup is free. For items outside our delivery zone, please contact us to discuss options.
Finishes & Care
What finish do you use on food-contact items?
All cutting boards, serving boards, and kitchen items are finished with food-safe mineral oil and beeswax. This creates a durable, water-resistant surface that's safe for direct food contact. Re-apply mineral oil every few months to keep the wood hydrated and looking its best.
What about outdoor pieces?
Outdoor planters and exterior-grade items are sealed with weather-resistant spar urethane. This marine-grade finish protects against moisture, UV exposure, and temperature swings. Even so, we recommend bringing pieces inside during harsh winter months or covering them to extend their life.
How do I care for my finished piece?
Dust with a soft cloth. Clean with a damp (not wet) cloth and dry immediately. Avoid direct sunlight for prolonged periods. For oil-finished items, re-apply mineral oil or beeswax every 3–6 months. For urethane-finished items, clean with mild soap and water.
Kit Skill Levels
Beginner
No tools needed — snap-together assembly. Perfect for first-time builders. All pieces are pre-cut and pre-sanded. No glue, no hardware confusion — just follow the illustrated guide and click things into place. Most beginner kits take under an hour.
Intermediate
Basic tools required, 1–2 hours. These kits involve simple joinery, a few screws, and some light sanding if you want a custom finish. A screwdriver and a rubber mallet are recommended. Instructions include exploded views and step-by-step photos.
Advanced
Some woodworking experience recommended, 2–4 hours. Advanced kits feature more complex joinery, precision alignment, and optional finishing steps. A drill/driver is recommended. These are designed for confident DIYers who want a rewarding weekend project.
Returns & Guarantees
What if I'm not satisfied with my purchase?
We offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee on all standard products. If you're not happy with your purchase for any reason, contact us within 30 days of delivery and we'll make it right — whether that's a replacement, repair, or full refund.
Are custom orders returnable?
Custom orders are final sale. Because each custom piece is made to your specifications — dimensions, wood species, finish, and design — we can't accept returns on commissioned work. We'll work closely with you during the design phase to make sure every detail is exactly what you want before we start building.
How do I start a return?
Send us an email at hello@boughbuilt.com with your order number and a brief description of the issue. We'll respond within 24 hours to arrange a solution.
